Of equal interest to most visitors are the Espada Aqueduct, about one mile north of the mission and the Espada Dam. The aqueduct, which lifts water from the San Antonio River across Piedras Creek in two graceful spans, was part of the mission's irrigation system. The process was perfected by the Indians of Central Mexico before the Spanish conquest and lost soon afterward. Within the walls most of the original square is preserved, giving an authentic picture of the mission plan. 9102 Graf at Ashley 78214
