Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose ambercolored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eightmile long gorge. These scenic falls are the centerpiece for the park and is the most photographed location in WV. The high altitude location within the Monongahela National Forest offers mild summer temperatures and a variety of winter outdoor recreation opportunities. Blackwater Lodge features 54 lodge rooms the Milton Harr Conference Center indoor pool and hot tub fitness center wireless internet and the Blackwater Dining Room. Blackwater has 26 fullyequipped rental cabins complete with full size kitchens microwave and fireplace. These yearround units vary in size from two to eight person size. Blackwater is known for yearround outdoor recreation. Cross country skiing and sledding are popular winter sports available on the park. More than 10 miles of cross country trails is maintained throughout the winter. The Sled Run and Cross Country Ski Center is open from midDecember through March 15th offering ski lesson and equipment rental. Blackwater is only a 15 minute drive from Canaan Valley Downhill Ski Resort Timberline Downhill Ski Resort and White Grass Cross Country Ski Resort offering additional nearby winter outdoor recreation. Blackwater offers paddle boating game courts camping panoramic views and picnicking as additional outdoor recreation. Mountain biking and hiking are very popular activities at Blackwater and offer more than 20 miles of trails with varying degrees of difficulty. A Nature Center with organized activities such as guided interpretive hikes and campfire programs are free to park guests.
